Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) Movie Review

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) was absolutely impressive to watch unfold on the big screen. There were a few scenes where the Na’vi people were solely featured that looked more like a video game, however when they were next to humans they blended so well and appeared very real. The story is pretty much the same, just different setting and I felt the length about midway, but there was a huge action sequence that pulled me back in. I would like to add that I did not enjoy the first Avatar (2009), mostly because I saw it in 3D and it was too long for that type of experience. So, I went the Dolby option for this sequel and it was much more enjoyable. Overall, would recommend seeing this one on the big screen as an art piece that is visually stunning. Rate is a 8.5 out of 10.

    I’m looking forward to seeing it next week. I like how you recommended seeing it as an art piece. Cameron certainly likes to go big, to the point that he invents new technologies to help him capture his story. He has a great eye for visual storytelling.

    Thank you, this is helpful. I had forgotten I had seen the original in 3D and aside from the throwing at me of a cigarette pack or lighter or something, really had not engaged. Better to go with another format, I agree.

      Also, Dolby has comfy seats that are necessary when watching a 3h 12m movie😅 I hope you have an enjoyable experience when you go see it on the big screen😊

    You admit that you did not enjoy Avatar, though you say it was possibly because you saw it in 3D. I saw it in 2D, and I actually found it quite boring, and have no desire to see this installment.
    I grew up reading Science Fiction in the 50s and 60s, and there were many better “humanity meets aliens” stories than the story told here. Visually the first movie was good, but I need an interesting story to make me watch a movie till its end. Avatar did not do that, and it sounds like this one fails there too.
    On the positive side, I wish someone would make a movie from the novel LITTLE FUZZY. I cannot remember the author (If I can find it I will add it on.), but that story was much more interesting, as was its follow-up, FUZZY SAPIENS. Just in case you are looking for a “fuzzy” feelgood story about humanity meets aliens

        Interesting, I will have to check out Little Fuzzy, thanks for recommendation.

        So, I rewatched Avatar and can confirm I still don’t enjoy it, as it’s a lot of switching into Avatar mode then back to heartless human mode. The sequel is consistent in showing the Na’vi lifestyle and story is much better with similar plotlines. If you get the opportunity to watch this movie, I saw watch it as an art installation that shows the most impressive film technology currently available.
