All 6 Scream Movies Ranked

Scream 6 (2023) is out and instead of a movie review, I thought it would be better to rank all 6 Scream Movies. This rank will start with the ‘Best To Worst’ based on cast chemistry, storyline, and the interpretation of Ghostface.

Best #1: Scream (1996) had a cast that seemingly had fun and a story that was believable enough to work. Despite Scary Movie (2000) making jokes of how silly Ghostface chase scenes were and how the kill scenes were completely unrealistic, Scream (1996) remains the best Ghostface story. It was so good it started a franchise with it’s originality and had two memorable killers with motives that were reasonable. Rate against 6 films: 10 out of 10.

#2Scream 3 (2000) wasn’t enjoyed by most, but this movie introduced new technology that elevated Ghostface. Also, the plot of a movie within another movie was interesting and very entertaining. The scene of Sidney in the studio house where she saw her Mother’s body rise up calling for her was pretty twisted. Also, the humor was present and Ghostface taking on Hollywood was actually cool. Rate against 6 films: 8 out of 10.

#3Scream 2 (1997) we got a new friend group mixed into the survivors of the first film and for the most part it works. Like the first movie it too was made fun of, as Ghostface would stumble and fall around too much during chase sequences. Randy’s death was the most shocking and he had one last humorous exchange with Ghostface, which was the right exit for his character. Rate against 6 films: 7.5 out of 10.

#4Scream 5 (2022) had a darker tone of Ghostface which was certainly great. However, the fact that these characters get stabbed 4500 times and still survive is frustrating. It seems the new installments are afraid to kill off characters, where the originals did not. I liked Tatum and Jennifer, but no one is safe, “those are the rules.” Also, biggest flaw of this storyline is the fact they tied the new main character to being Billy’s daughter and he shows up throughout the film talking to her, which is absurd. Rate against 6 films: 7 out of 10.

#5Scream 4 (2011) was a good continuation of the original story. The kill scenes, cast, and the storyline were overall decent. The twist in the killers was interesting enough not to make it the worst in the franchise. Rate against 6 films: 6.5 out of 10

Worst #6Scream 6 (2023) had the most intense Ghostface scenes, but the worst storyline. This one felt the most like a copy and paste plot of all sequels. The killers motives were already done through Mrs. Lewis in Scream 2 (1997), but these new killers weren’t as impactful as Billy’s Mother reveal as the killer. The cast is good, but again, Billy being apart of his daughter’s thoughts is a mess. The rating for this movie are high, but it is the worst so far. Ghostface taking on New York was awesome, but the actual killers were a horrible choice and ruined the entire movie. Rate against 6 films: 6 out of 10

If there is a Scream 7, it should be the final part and reintroduce the killer everyone is waiting for, Stu Macher. The infamous sidekick that was stopped by a television would work, as the door to absurdity was opened with Billy talking to his daughter in her thoughts. Stu coming back to finish what he started and having Billy talking to him, would be more believable than Billy being a teen dad and talking to his daughter in her thoughts.

So, here is the plot idea for Scream 7: Stu Macher’s parents are so connected that the authorities secretly declared him dead. His parents take him out to a remote location and rehabilitate him back to full health, where he secretly continues living his life. However, when Ghostface returned in 2022 killing his only nephew, something snapped in Stu. He then starts to hear Billy give him orders for revenge and turns a little into Norman Bates, which would be a nice call back to the first film. This final chapter would follow Stu, as Ghostface rather than the survivors, as he finds a way to feed or overcome his overpowering, peer pressuring friend, Billy.

Anyway, if you got this far, I hope you enjoyed my first franchise rank and feel free to let me know what you think. Also, what’s your favorite scary movie?
